FAQs as a bike service business
Q. Listing my company on Bike Geeks is free? What’s the catch?
A. No catch! We want to build the credibility of the site up before we ask anyone to pay for it. There will always be an option of retaining a free listing on Bike Geeks, but it’s likely that we will add some advanced features that we hope will encourage you to part with your hard-earned money in the future.
Q. If I list my business, how will you be using my information?
A. We will never sell your information to any third parties. Our systems will securely store your information and only trusted employees of Bike Geeks Limited will have access to it for necessary purposes only.
Q. I have already filled in a form on your holding page – why isn’t my listing showing?
A. All new listings go into a ‘sandbox’ area where we check and verify the details. We work through these fairly quickly so you should see your listing live soon. Want to give us a gentle nudge? Send us a message at addlisting@bikegeeks.com
Q. Why are you asking for so much detail on sign up? Do you really need to know if I can perform specific tasks?
A. In the not too distant future, it’s our aim that a visitor to the site can refine their search down to the exact service they are looking for. For instance, if they need a Rohloff hub serviced or an eBike battery repaired, it’s better that they find someone locally that can help them with those very specific requests and not waste valuable time contacting members that don’t offer those services. Note. You can remove or add services at any time in the future.
Q. I can see that my business has a listing, can I claim / edit this?
A. Yes – absolutely. Contact us here to claim your listing
Q. How will people know that I’m listed on Bike Geeks?
A. We see this as a two-way street. We advertise you and your business and in turn it would be great if you can link back to us. You can achieve this in several ways from placing stickers in windows to adding a Bike Geeks frame to your profile on social media.
Q. I’m an established bike shop, why would I want to be listed alongside smaller services, mobile mechanics and start-ups?
A. Plenty of people only want to deal with an established bike shop. Longevity of business and reputation will see your customers return again and again. You can highlight your knowledge, experience and credentials in your profile.
Q. Can I see how many people are viewing my listing?
A. We plan to provide this information in the future as part of our advanced roadmap.
Q. I have a suggestion of how the site could be better. Are you interested?
Q. I have a suggestion of how the site could be better. Are you interested? A Yes please! We are constantly reviewing our development roadmap and therefore would be very interested in any features you would like to see further down the line. Email suggestions@bikegeeks.com
FAQs as a cyclist
Q. Do I have to pay to use Bike geeks?
A. No, Bike Geeks is completely free to use. There are no hidden costs.
Q. What is the best way to filter my results?
A. When listing their businesses on Bike Geeks, companies are asked to provide lots of details on the services they do and do not offer. Using the advanced filters will enable you to focus your search results on the exact service you are looking for.
Q. I’m not sure what is wrong with my bike, where do I start?
A. A good supplier will be happy to talk this through with you. Contact them and ask them if they know “what the crunching sound is on the rear whadjamacallit is”. Don’t be shy, they are more than used to people not knowing what the technical terms are.
Q. Can I contact the services listed directly via your website?
A. You can use the contact information listed (external links) on BikeGeeks.com to contact service providers you wish to use, however currently you cannot contact them directly through the website - we plan to add this feature in the near future.
Q. I can’t see many companies in my local area. Why?
A. We are in the process of adding more each day. With an estimated 5000+ cycling focused companies in the UK alone, adding to the directory in each local area will take some time. You can help us extend our coverage by making us aware of cycling focused companies or services you have used. We will then contact them directly and ask them if they want to be part of the Bike Geeks network. Please submit your entry to addlisting@bikegeeks.com
Q. I can’t see any feedback or ratings for an individual business so how do I know if they are any good?
A. We plan to add this feature. It’s already in development but we are still experimenting with the best way of deploying it. Please note: The content contained on the Bike Geeks website is provided for general information only and has been gathered from other sources or entered directly from the individual companies themselves. Although Bike Geeks makes reasonable efforts to make updates to the information on a regular basis the content contained on the website may be out of date or inaccurate and Bike Geeks cannot be held responsible for any false or misleading information. We strongly suggest you compare and make your own checks before giving someone your business.
Q. I only want to do business with someone with insurance or relevant qualifications. Can I select this in the filter?
A. Yes, go to the advanced filter and you will see the insurance and qualifications checkboxes for you to select. This will filter out the businesses who don’t have these credentials. Please note, we do not currently check these qualifications individually, so it is imperative that you ask to see their credentials yourself.
Q. Do you verify or check each listing?
A. We check periodically that they are still trading but currently do not check each listing’s information by asking them to provide proof of qualifications etc.
Q. Can I leave a positive review for a business?
A. This feature will be added to the site. Please do let us know if you have had a positive experience so we can record it in the back end of the system. We will also pass this information on to the business on your behalf. Email your comments (including name of business) to: memberfeedback@bikegeeks.com
Q. I have had a bad experience with someone listed on your site. What can I do?
A. Sorry to hear this. We hope you can resolve this issue with the service provider directly. For more info please visit:
Q. Are the businesses listed on your site part of the Government Cycle voucher scheme?
A. Many bike shops and some mobile mechanics are signed up to the government scheme. Be sure to select that from your search criteria (see advanced filters once you have performed an initial search). To find out more about the vouchers and if you can apply for one, visit one of these links depending on your location:
